A MAN who rode an off-road quad bike in Aveley without having insurance has been sentenced.
Sonny Waites, 19, of Upminster Road North, Rainham, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, April 7, where he pleaded guilty and was fined £290, given six points on his driving licence and was ordered to pay £30 victim surcharge.
On the morning of Tuesday, February 27, officers spotted Waites riding a Yamaha Raptor 700R quad bike along Purfleet Road.
He stopped for police and was reported at the roadside for the offence.
Pc Rowan Perrior, of Thurrock Community Policing Team, said: “Off-road quad bikes can’t be insured to drive on our roads, so when we spotted Waites we instantly ordered him to stop.
“From experience we have found that these vehicles are often driven recklessly and anti-socially on our roads.
“In this instance, Waites was co-operative but he was not wearing a helmet and was uninsured, presenting a danger to him and to other road users.
“This case demonstrates that if we see vehicles on our roads that pose a danger to other road users or pedestrians, we will stop and bring offenders to justice.”
