AN ESSEX Police officer is under criminal investigation for an alleged excessive use of force during the arrest of a Thurrock UKIP councillor.
YT has also learned that the officer has been served with a gross misconduct notice. If found guilty of gross misconduct, an officer may be dismissed from the force.
The investigation relates to the arrest on suspicion of assault of Tilbury St Chads councillor, John Allen at his home in Stifford Clays on December 28th, 2016. He was later released without charge but before then had attended Basildon Hospital with an unspecified injury.
An IPCC spokesperson said:
“The IPCC investigation into the alleged excessive use of force by an Essex Police officer against two men is ongoing.
“Essex Police referred an incident in which a man sustained an injury during his arrest to the IPCC on 28/12/16. Complaints were also made by two individuals, and a decision to independently investigate was made.
“A police constable has been served with a gross misconduct notice by the IPCC relating to the alleged excessive use of force against one of the men. He has been advised he is under criminal investigation, though this does not mean charges will necessarily follow.”
