THE BODY of the man who died in a cement mixer more than a decade ago is to be exhumed.

Lee Balkwell was found dead in July 2002 at Baldwin’s Farm near to South Ockendon.

Officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate intend to carry out an exhumation of the body of Lee Balkwell as part of their ongoing search for the truth regarding his death.

It is believed that the exhumation will take place later this month at Upminster crematorium.

A police spokesperson said: “The investigation team acknowledges the sensitivities of conducting such a line of enquiry and will remain in close contact with the next of kin and family of Lee Balkwell during the preparation and planning of this process.

“A request has been made by the next of kin of Lee Balkwell for the media and the public to respect their privacy at this distressing time and not to make contact with them.”

The original investigation concluded that Lee Balkwell’ death had been a tragic accident.
