AT court earlier this month, Thurrock Council obtained possession back of a council property that is linked to tenant who has been sentence to 5 years in prison, following two armed robberies in the Chadwell St Mary area.

In April 2021, Mr Ellisdon from Grays committed a series of robberies in the local area, stealing two e-scooters at knife-point from an online marketplace seller. Upon arrest, the two items were recovered, and Mr Ellisdon was found guilty of robbery and given a 5 year custodial sentence.

Mr Ellisdon was ordered to pay £7,845.30 in outstanding rent arrears, and an additional £481.75 in court costs during his sentencing on Friday 13 May 2022.

Cllr Rob Gledhill, Leader of the Council, said “Council housing is a rare resource and needs to be made available for those who treat it, and the community with respect.

“In the last five years, our housing team have successfully had 10 property possession orders granted in court, where properties have been seized and returned to the council.

“Once again, the swift hand of justice has prevailed and another criminal is removed from our streets. Whether it’s to threaten or attack someone, knife crime is an incredibly serious issue that we continue to tackle both within our local area and more widely across the country.

“I would like to thank Essex Police for their swift action and multi-agency partnership working with the Thurrock Council Housing and Anti-Social Behaviour Teams to demonstrate that criminal behaviour will not be tolerated in our borough, and we will work together to keep our communities safe.”
