BLACKSHOTS councillors Ben Maney and Joy Redsell joined Essex Police and Thurrock Council officers on Thursday 28th October for a patrol of their ward.
The aim of the exercise was to discuss the ongoing nuisance of illegal motorbike activity and the measures which could be taken to tackle this. The team visited Gammon Field along with the farmland near Long Lane before moving on to inspect Hangmans Wood and Blackshots playing field.
Speaking of the walkabout, Cllr Maney said “this year has been one of the worst for illegal motorbike activity in Blackshots and residents have had enough. Earlier this summer Joy and I met with a senior district police officer and made the case for intervention. We were pleased to hear that the police have been formulating a plan of action and the patrol of nuisance hotspots on the 28th was a chance to discuss first-hand where resources need to be targeted. As ward councillors, we were also able to share our local knowledge and pass on feedback from residents.”
Whilst on patrol an HGV was observed parked up in King Edward Drive and the police were able to intervene. Speaking of the incident Cllr Redsell said “as councillors, we have responded to incidents of HGV parking in Blackshots. Following complaints from residents in Woodview, we persuaded the council to implement waiting restrictions and enforcement patrols have taken place at Blackshot leisure centre car park in order to address HGVs overnighting there. By getting out and about we are able to see these problems first hand and make the case for action”.
