Stephen Taylor, 37, formerly of Daiglen Drive, South Ockenden, pleaded guilty to six charges of making indecent images of children and three counts of possessing extreme pornography when he appeared at Basildon Crown Court.

The court heard how officers, acting on intelligence, executed a warrant at his then home address in South Ockenden on October 15 last year.

They searched the property and seized various equipment including laptops, hard drives, cameras and mobile phones. Forensic analysis of the equipment found them to contain:

21 Category A films and moving images (Category A is the most serious category of abuse imagery)
10 Category B films and moving images
62 Category C films and moving images
16 Extreme films and moving images

Taylor was charged, pleaded guilty and was sentenced on Friday March 23 at Basildon Crown Court.

He was sentenced to a three-year community order and ordered to complete the Horizons rehabilitation programme.

Following the sentencing Det Insp Ashley Howard said: “Nothing is more important that protecting our children.

“The making, viewing and distribution of indecent images of children is a heinous crime. Each time those images are viewed or shared, those children featured in them are exploited time and again.

“We will leave no stone unturned in our pursuit of those individuals involved in any form of abuse against children and if you are committing these types of offense you can expect to be hearing from us very soon.”

Investigating officer PC Clair Ward added: “Taylor was found in possession of nearly 100 indecent images, each featuring a child that has been sexually abused.

“We will continue to robustly target offenders like him who think it’s acceptable to commit these types of offences.”

Taylor is one of more than 58 offenders arrested during a crackdown aimed at targeting offenders downloading, making and distributing indecent images of children online.

Over the year, using an intelligence-led approach, a dedicated team of specialist officers have targeted those carrying out this type of offence.

The team have worked alongside and in support of Essex Police’s existing specialist Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT) and Child Abuse Investigation Teams (CAIT).

The Lucy Faithfull Foundation is the only UK-wide child protection charity focused solely on preventing child sexual abuse. The charity runs Stop it Now! – a child sexual abuse prevention campaign and helpline

Woman failed to disclose Grays property in fraud case

FADIMANA Altinsoy of Basildon Essex was successfully prosecuted by Epping Forest District Council in March 2018 of three offences under the Fraud act 2006 and Money Laundering under the Proceeds of Crime act 2002.

Change of plea

Initially pleading not guilty at Chelmsford Magistrates Court in February 2017, the Magistrates declined jurisdiction and transferred the matter to Chelmsford Crown Court.

Ms Altinsoy maintained her not guilty pleas at a number of hearings in that court but on the first day of a trial listed for six days in January 2018 she changed her pleas to guilty.

Fraudulent applications

The basis of the prosecution was when applying for Council housing in 2003 Fadimana Altinsoy had failed to declare her ownership of two properties jointly owned by herself and other relatives in Forest Gate London E7 and Grays in Essex RM17.

She was granted tenancy of a property in Copperfield Chigwell 22 January 2007, the following day she completed a further Housing Application form seeking a move from a flat to a house and again failed to state that she jointly owned the properties.

Had the Council been aware of her ownerships, she would not have been given the tenancy of the property at Copperfield Chigwell.

Home ownership grant

June 2010 Ms Altinsoy applied for a home ownership grant to assist her in purchasing a private property and again failed to reveal that she had an interest in two other properties.

Epping Forest District Council awarded Ms Altinsoy one of six available grants of £28,000 which she used to purchase a property in Basildon, SS13 in June 2011.

However having not been entitled to the tenancy of the property in Chigwell, she was therefore not entitled to have received the home ownership grant.

Over £40,000 worth of fines

After the hearing in January Ms Altinsoy agreed to pay the sum of home ownership grant £28,000back to the Council together with the prosecution costs of £12,500 before 5 March 2018 and a sentence hearing was fixed for 9th March 2018.

On that date she was given a 2 year suspended sentence, together with 200 hours unpaidwork with a probation supervision order for 12 months.

A ROGUE trader has been handed a two year suspended sentence and ordered to pay costs of more than £4,700 five years after he was first caught by Thurrock’s Trading Standards team.

John Kenny, aged 51, of Allen Way, Chelmsford, who traded as a car mechanic under the name Grease Monkey’s or Gas Monkey’s, pleaded guilty to fraud at Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday 10 April. He had ripped off customers taking money for parts and repairs to their vehicles which were not supplied.

He was first tracked down by Thurrock Council Trading Standards Team in 2013 but told the courts that he had dementia. At today’s hearing the judge said she was “cynical” of his medical evidence and Kenny’s defence no longer advanced that he suffers the condition in court.

Kenny was convicted of giving customers false information, misleading information and omitting information to deceive and obtaining money with a promise to supply goods or services but failing to do so.

Sentencing him to six months imprisonment suspended for two years Judge Leigh said this was the oldest case on the court’s books and predated her time on the bench. Handing Kenny his sentence she said: “You are a rogue trader who is cruel and cynical and exploited people.”

Kenny was also ordered to pay £1,757 compensation and £3,000 costs.

A spokesperson for Thurrock Council said: “This rogue trader has attempted to evade justice for many years but thanks to the dedicated work of our Trading Standards officers he has finally been brought to justice.

“We work hard to protect residents from rogue traders and will always prosecute to the full extent of the law.”

Residents who want to report a rogue trader should call Citizens Advice Consumer helpline on 03454 04 05 06.

A MAN who rode an off-road quad bike in Aveley without having insurance has been sentenced.

Sonny Waites, 19, of Upminster Road North, Rainham, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, April 7, where he pleaded guilty and was fined £290, given six points on his driving licence and was ordered to pay £30 victim surcharge.

He stopped for police and was reported at the roadside for the offence.

Pc Rowan Perrior, of Thurrock Community Policing Team, said: “Off-road quad bikes can’t be insured to drive on our roads, so when we spotted Waites we instantly ordered him to stop.
