A drug driver has been disqualified for three years after he was caught on the A13 in Pitsea.

Officers spotted a Ford Fiesta being driven erratically at around 5.05pm on March 7, 2018.

They followed and stopped the vehicle and found the driver, Jamie Harding, 24, of Godman Road, Chadwell St Mary, was not wearing his seatbelt.

Suspecting he was under the influence of drink or drugs the officers gave him a breath test and a drug swipe.

He was negative for drink but the drug swipe indicated he had cocaine in his system.

A further blood test found he had more than 10 times the legal limit for Benzoylecgonine, which is a metabolite of cocaine.

He was charged with drug driving and at Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday, July 17 Harding was banned from driving for three years, fined £400 and ordered to pay £135 costs and a £40 victim surcharge.

Essex Police’s Head of Roads Policing, Adam Pipe, said: “Drug driving is completely unacceptable.

“Drugs can slow your reaction time and when you’re driving that can be fatal.

“Jamie Harding was putting his safety at risk and that of other road users on one of Essex’s busiest roads at a time of day when there would have been plenty of other cars around.

“I’m glad he’s been taken off our roads and I hope he uses his ban to reflect on his action.

“Our message is drive safe, drive sober.”
