LITTER louts who spoil the borough and don’t pay their fine will still face a criminal record, Thurrock’s Portfolio Holder for Environment has warned.
Speaking after 25 more people were prosecuted for not paying their Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) – totalling £15,154 – on Monday 21 August and Monday 18 September at Basildon Magistrates Court, Cllr Aaron Watkins said there are more to come in order to tackle the blight of an untidy borough.
Since the council began extra efforts to enforce against environmental crime as part of clean it, cut it, fill it, 60 people have been prosecuted for non-payment of FPNs.
Cllr Watkins said: “We will relentlessly seek out those who spoil our borough. There will be no let-up in our bid to tackle this selfish behaviour.
“It’s simple, if you don’t want to be fined then use a bin. There is no excuse to throw litter on the floor.
“Through clean it, cut it, fill it, the council is working hard to keep the borough tidy. Those who stand in our way will feel the full force of the law.”
