THURROCK Council’s Trading Standards are warning residents about a door to door marketing of insulation services to private householders in the Chafford Hundred area.
The team has received reports of companies carrying out marketing and installation and not providing clear details of the parties involved.
There have also been false claims that the scheme being carried out in conjunction with or with the approval of Thurrock Council.
The government backed Energy Company Obligation requires energy companies to fund certain energy saving measures. The energy companies may provide the full cost of some measures to any consumer, or they may restrict availability to persons over a certain age or in receipt of certain benefits.
Leader of the Council who also has responsibility for Trading Standards, Cllr Rob Gledhill, said: “These ruthless individuals prey on resident’s vulnerability. If you have any doubts about the people at your door, simply do not engage.
“The council is working with Aran Services to deliver a programme of insulation for private homes.”
Consumers who may be considering these measures are reminded to ensure they have details of the costs, if any, they have to pay, the identity of the provider of the service in case of quality or guarantee issues, the extent of the work to be done and the date and duration of the installation.
