Village Beach 2016

ESSEX Police will be supporting the security operation ahead of and during tomorrow’s Village Green Festival.

There remains no specific threat or intelligence linked to any place or event in Essex and officers will be present on Saturday, July 8, to lend support to the general security operation.

Festival goers are asked to read information and advice issued by Metal Culture and advised to leave enough time for detailed searches. These will be conducted prior to the festival, and people are asked to avoid bringing glass bottles, chairs, dogs and any sharp utensils. For more information on the festival please visit www.villagegreenfestival.com/important-info.html.

Detective Superintendent Kevin Baldwin, of Essex Police, said, “We have been working closely with the event organisers to ensure we are supporting them in the best way possible ahead of Saturday’s Village Green Festival.

“Festival goers will see officers at the event, and we hope people will feel reassured by their presence. They definitely should not feel alarmed or worried.

“We would like to reassure everyone that we do not anticipate Saturday’s event to be anything other than safe and secure, however, given the tragic events in Manchester and London, it is sensible and proportionate to have an intensified policing presence.

“The public are our eyes and ears and we do ask people to remain alert and vigilant. If you see something suspicious it is probably nothing, but we want you to tell us about it.

“Anyone who sees anything suspicious is asked to contact the confidential anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789321 or in an emergency, people should dial 999.”
