ROADS Policing officers were called to a single-vehicle collision at the A13 slip road onto the Rayleigh Spur Roundabout earlier this year.
When they arrived at the scene on the evening of Saturday 11 January, they found a badly damaged car on the grass verge.
The driver was subject to an investigation after failing a roadside breath test.
Adrian Dumitru of Bridge Road, East Ham, London was charged with driving with excess alcohol after the 49-year-old was found to be two-and-a-half times over the legal limit.
He pleaded guilty to the charge at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court when he appeared on Tuesday 10 June.
He was banned from driving for 40 months and fined more than £600 in addition to court costs.
PC Dale Barnes: “After drinking, you may feel that you are okay to drive, you’re not.
“Impairment means you are liable to lose control of your car or demonstrate risky driving behaviour such as speeding that can place you or others’ safety at considerable risk.
“We’ll continue to work hard to address this issue so that our roads are safe for everyone.”
