COMMUNITY Safety Wardens are working on the frontline as part of Basildon Council’s tough stance on tackling anti-social behaviour in Basildon Town Centre.
This is a no-nonsense approach. Basildon Council is making it clear: anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated, and we’re putting people on the ground to deal with it. The town centre belongs to the community – not to those who seek to intimidate, disrupt or damage it.

The wardens provide a presence in Basildon Town Centre, working in the very centre of our borough every day – where they’re needed most. Their role is simple but essential: enforcing the Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), tackling anti-social behaviour head-on, and ensuring that everyone feels safe when visiting or working in the town centre.
During a recent patrol, Councillor Gavin Callaghan, Leader of Basildon Council, joined the team on the day they intervened in a shoplifting incident and assisted emergency services with a medical emergency – a clear demonstration of the wardens’ impact on the streets.
Councillor Callaghan said: “We’re serious about making Basildon safer. We’re putting boots on the ground and taking back control of our town centre. We will restore pride, we will restore order, and we will make Basildon a place people where feel safe again. This is about reclaiming our streets and standing up for our residents.”
This initiative is part of the council’s broader regeneration plan to bring pride back to Basildon Town Centre – restoring public confidence and creating a safe, vibrant environment for businesses, shoppers, families and residents.
Community Safety Wardens will be patrolling the town centre, including the train and bus station through to the Long Riding underpass, every day from 9am to 9pm.
