A MISCONDUCT panel has found a former police officer who was convicted of two offences would have been dismissed without notice had he not already left the force.

Former PC Nigel Wright was convicted of stalking in relation to a woman between February to March 2024 and common assault in relation to a man in February 2024.
He has since left the force but accelerated misconduct proceedings proceeded in ex-PC Wright’s absence on Friday 13 December.
The panel, chaired by Chief Constable Ben-Julian Harrington, found ex-PC Wright had breached standards in relation to discreditable conduct and would have been dismissed without notice had he still been serving.
His name has also been added to the police barred list preventing him re-joining policing in any role.
Chief Constable Ben-Julian Harrington said: “It is entirely unacceptable that those who uphold and enforce the law then break it themselves.
“We expect incredibly high standards of behaviour amongst our thousands of officers, staff and volunteers and ex-PC Wright’s fell well below that.
“His actions have no place in policing – and are in no way representative of the hardworking people of high integrity who are working to keep women and girls safe in Essex and keep crime down in our county.”
