TWO men have been arrested following a burglary in Grays where a cannabis cultivation was discovered.

Police were called to reports of a burglary at a property in Elvin Drive, North Stifford, at 3.55am on Tuesday 20 August.

Officers quickly attended the location and one man was arrested at the property and a search of the area resulted in a second man being arrested nearby.

The two suspects were detained by officers from Thurrock Local Policing Team with the support of the National Police Air Support team and Dog Unit.

When officers searched the property, they discovered an estimated 100 cannabis plants at various growth stages and hydroponic equipment used to grow the plants.

Officers remained on scene whilst the property was made safe, and the cannabis plants removed.

Two men, aged 33 and 27, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and have been bailed until 15 November whilst our enquiries continue.

District Commander Tony Atkin said: “Thanks to the quick response of officers working in partnership with other teams, two arrests were made very quickly.

“Drugs won’t be tolerated here in Grays, and the plants will be seized for destruction, meaning they can’t be passed into our communities where they pose a greater risk of harm.

“Drugs are often linked to other crimes and anti-social behaviour, and by removing them from the chain, our residents are safeguarded.”
