ON Monday 15 July, a Roads Policing Unit led the way in a local road safety operation in support of Vision Zero to identify offenders and to prevent and reduce offences in the west of the county.
Over a busy day, they worked with partners to enforce the law and educate drivers, arresting two drivers, one of which was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

Fifteen drivers were found to be using their mobile phones whilst driving: it is also an offence whilst you are awaiting at traffic lights or similar circumstances whilst you are awaiting to move off and have the engine running.
Vision Zero days focus on the offences known as the #FatalFour – those offences that are known to contribute to serious and fatal collisions. The policing activity also saw:
9 seatbelt tickets issued.
16 speed offences
4 no insurance offences
4 driving licence offences
Throughout the day, 8 vehicles were seized and a further 28 traffic report offences were issued for a variety of other road offences.
Last year, 41 people died on Essex’s roads. Vision Zero is our ambition to have no road deaths by 2040 or sooner.
We’ll continue to work with partners and Community Speedwatch volunteers to tackle road safety in the county.
