ESSEX Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Roger Hirst met with borough Dame Jackie Doyle-Price MP at Lakeside shopping centre and rail station recently to focus on tackling anti-social behaviour in the locality.
The shopping centre has been the venue for a number of incidents over recent months, including robbery and assault – often involving young people.

That is despite an increased presence of policing following a funding initiative from Mr Hirst’s office, announced in July last year when he authorised the spending of an extra £1.1m in high-visibility patrols and targeted intervention to tackle anti-social behaviour in 11 hotspots across Essex, later expanded to 13.
The area of Thurrock including the shopping centre and Chafford Hundred rail station was one of the identified hotspots and the visit to Thurrock by Mr Hirst was described ‘seeing benefits of anti-social behaviour hotspot funding’.
Latest year-on-year figures to the end of January that were recently released show anti-social behaviour incidents in Thurrock district have decreased by 32%.
