OFFICERS arrested 13 people in one day as they targeted anti-social behaviour (ASB) and weapon offences this weekend.
The arrests were made by police across Essex, including the Operational Support Group (OSG) providing additional support to local officers.
Among these in Thurrock, one person was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon following patrols in Grays town centre, Grays and Chafford train stations and Lakeside shopping centre.
While patrolling along with officers from British transport Police and Thurrock Council’s anti-social behaviour team, two more people were given community protection notices relating to ASB.
In the Castle Point and Rochford districts, OSG officers detained a man who had a warrant for his arrest, and our PCSOs conducted knife searches of parks and were out on patrol in locations we’ve identified as potential crime hotspots.
Patrols targeting hotspots were also carried out in Chelmsford and Maldon to identify potential criminality and prevent further offences.
In the Epping Forest district, two people were arrested on suspicion of theft after more than £1,500 of goods were stolen from businesses in the district.
OSG officers also identified a man wanted on suspicion of rape and sexual assault, who was arrested and taken into custody.
In addition to these arrests, our officers on our roads carried out two warrants, carried out 30 stop and searches, carried out more than 150 vehicle checks, almost 600 speed checks and seized 10 vehicles.
Superintendent Phil Stinger said: “This is a 24-hour snapshot of the work we do across Essex.
“These arrests show our hotspot patrolling is effective as well. We are working hard to make our towns and cities safer, to drive down ASB and to discourage anyone from carrying a weapon.
“The same goes for our major roads and rural lanes – we won’t tolerate dangerous vehicles or dangerous driving, and will seize your vehicle if we catch you breaking the law.
“Every day is different, and we’ll be doing it all again tomorrow.”
