PEOPLE who live, work and travel in Essex have the chance to help to make the county safer as Roger Hirst, the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC) for Essex, develops the Police and Crime Plan.
People are being urged to take part in a survey where they can give their views on the proposed priorities included in the plan and how they will be delivered.
The survey can be accessed here: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/EssexPFCCPlan/
The proposed priorities are:
Further investment in crime prevention
Improve services to support victims of crime
Reducing drug driven violence
Protect rural and isolated areas
Improving safety on the roads
Encouraging volunteers and community support
Protecting vulnerable people and those affected by crime and abuse
Reducing violence against women and girls
Preventing dog theft
Preventing business crime, fraud and cybercrime
Supporting officers and staff
Increasing collaboration
Following his re-election in May, Roger has been busy working on the plan – a strategic document that sets out the PFCC’s vision and priorities for policing and crime reduction in Essex. The plan is the basis on which the PFCC holds the Chief Constable to account in terms of performance, provides funding for services such as Victim Support or Community Safety Partnerships and works with community organisations to help make Essex safer. Once agreed, the Chief Constable will use its vision and priorities to inform the force plan for Essex Police and wider objectives will be pursued through commissioning and partnership work.
Importantly, the Police and Crime Plan 2021-2024 will focus on bringing to life the Commissioner’s Manifesto, which was endorsed through his election, and delivering what people want from policing and community safety in Essex.
Roger said: “We know that by working together we can make huge improvements in our communities so collating views and feedback from representatives of all groups and backgrounds who live, work and travel in Essex is vital.”
The PFCC’s previous Police and Crime Plans have made a real difference in Essex. A commitment to local, visible, accessible policing has led to an extra 500 police officers in Essex with 300 more to come, investment in policing teams for the town centres, rural and business communities, and an increase in the Special Constabulary are just some examples.
The Plan has also informed decisions helping the PFCC to fund organisations, including many faith-based groups, that deliver important projects focused on community safety, reducing violence and supporting young people.
The survey is available here: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/EssexPFCCPlan/
Copies are available to download and print from the PFCC’s website www.essex.pfcc.police.uk or people can email pfcc@essex.police.uk or call 01245 291600 to request a copy.
The survey closes at midnight on September 19th.
