Officers are treating the incident as arson and want to speak to anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in the area between 5pm on Tuesday, November 5 and 8am on Wednesday, November 6.
Investigating officer, Pc Lee Wayland, said: “It is absolutely reprehensible that anyone could set fire to this play equipment – spoiling the enjoyment of young children in the process.
“You only need to look at the pictures to see the devastating affect this would have had on the pre-school, and how upsetting it would have been for the kids.
” I’d really urge people to ring us if they have any information that could bring those responsible to justice.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Pc Wayland, or his colleagues at Grays, on 101. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
