THURROCK Council has launched the Grays Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) consultation and would like to hear views from local residents and businesses.
The PSPO was introduced in April 2017 to address street drinking and anti-social behaviour in the town centre. The council is now considering extending the current PSPO due to expire at the end of March 2020.
Cllr Rob Gledhill, Leader of Thurrock Council, said: “We are here to support our residents and businesses who just want to live and work without being affected by those intent on street drinking. As the PSPO Order is about to expire, it’s important the council hears the views from those who live, work or travel through the town centre and surrounding area to help us effectively tackle troublemakers whose thoughtless actions can blight whole communities.
“Thurrock Council working with our partners in Essex Police will take the action necessary to stop a small minority from ruining the lives of entire neighbourhoods through their inconsiderate and unlawful activities. Since last April we have issued more than 200 fixed penalties for offences including various forms of anti-social behaviour, littering, fly-tipping and graffiti. With Keep Britain Tidy recently awarding our enforcement team a national award we have the tools in place to take action.
“Our residents should not have to tolerate anti-social behaviour and we encourage everyone to have their say in this consultation.”
There are a number of ways of providing feedback and sharing experiences of anti-social behaviour including a survey and digital mapping tool by visiting consult.thurrock.gov.uk. The mapping tool will allow individuals to pin exactly where they have seen types of anti-social behaviour on a map to help build a clear picture of activity hotspots in Grays.
