POLICE are warning members of the public to be on the look out for a two foot square black box which contains asbestos that has been stolen from a car.

The box is a Safety Industries Negative Pressure Unit which has been used in the professional removal of asbestos. It was stolen from a vehicle which had been left secure in a car park in Killara Church Road, in Corringham, at sometime between 4pm on Monday October 21 and 6.15am on Tuesday October 22.

If the unit is not tampered with and is undamaged then it does not pose a risk but if it is damaged, or someone tries to dismantle it, there is a potential for a release of asbestos. The item is described as a black 2ft square sealed unit made of plastic. It has the number 100508 etched on the top and name ‘Safety Industries’ is also written on the side.

Anyone who sees the box or has any information on its current whereabouts is asked to contact police on 999, they should not make any attempt to move the box but await the arrival of the police.
