A 36-year-old woman from Basildon has been ordered to pay £150 in compensation and undertake 70 hours of unpaid work after she admitted stealing cash from an elderly man.
On Monday 8 October, 2018, a man in his 80s had £150 in cash stolen from him as he was shopping on Derwent Parade in South Ockendon.
Following CCTV enquiries, a woman was arrested and later charged with theft from another person.
Catherine Martin of Gardenia Court appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on Friday 13 September and pleaded guilty to the offence.
In addition to the compensation costs and the unpaid work, she was ordered to pay £190 in costs and participate in rehabilitation activity.
