THURROCK Council Leader, Cllr Rob Gledhill, has welcomed news that Essex Police have launched an operation targeting crime and anti-social behaviour in the Chafford Hundred area.
In just the first three weeks of the operation, which was launched on 8 July, 2019, officers have arrested two people for carrying knives, a further four for drug dealing with further arrests having been made for drug possession and driving while disqualified. Officers have also seized two vehicles from drivers who did not have insurance.
Cllr Gledhill said: “This operation shows that Essex Police are taking the concerns of the community in Chafford Hundred seriously and are taking action to arrest those committing crimes in the area.
“This targeted operation has only be running for a matter of weeks and it has already achieved some fantastic results.
“It sends a clear message that crime and antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated on our streets.
“This is just the start and as the operation progresses we expect to see many more excellent results like those we have seen already.
“However, as with everything the police can only work with the intelligence supplied by residents. If anyone sees or is a victim of crime they need to contact 999 in an emergency or 101 if it is not urgent. Equally you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 with information which will be passed onto the police.”
District commander Chief Inspector Claire Talbot said: “This is a great example of the strong partnership work we carry out with Thurrock Council to tackle knife crime, drug related crime and anti-social behaviour in the district.
“Working together we are able to ensure that we can deal with the issues in a number of ways to ensure there is a combination of enforcement, education and prevention.”
