Residents continue to face heavy fines for dropping cigarettes

THURROCK Council’s “get-tough” approach to people who throw cigarettes away continues as a number of people faced heavy fines recently.

You will notice that most people have a total fine of £740.00 and may wonder why it is so high.

The breakdown is as follows:
Fined: £440.00
Surcharge to victim services: £44.00
Costs: £250.00

All verdicts (apart from last one) were proved in absence.

They were:

Isabel Apio, aged 32, of Franciso Close, Chafford Hundred was fined a total of £734.00

On 09/05/2018 at Grays threw down, dropped or otherwise deposited litter, namely a cigarette and left it in outside Lloyds Bank, High Street a place to which section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 applied.

Louise Benson, aged 42, of Araglen Avenue, South Ockendon was fiend a total of £734.00

On 18/05/2018 at South Ockendon threw down, dropped or otherwise deposited litter, namely cigarette and left it in outside Town Market, High Street, Grays, Thurrock a place to which section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 applied.

Chantelle Glenister, aged 31, of Thames Road, Grays was fined a total of£734.00

On 16/05/2018 at Grays threw down, dropped or otherwise deposited litter, namely a cigarette and left it in outside Railway Station, Crown Road a place to which section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 applied.

Karen Langley, aged 52, of Waldon, East Tilbury was fined a total of £734.00

On 18/05/2018 at Grays threw down, dropped or otherwise deposited litter, namely a cigarette and left it in outside High Street Market, Grays a place to which section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 applied. Contrary to section 87(1) and (5) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Mr Martin James Langley, aged 58, of Walden, East Tilbury was fined a total of £734.00

On 18/05/2018 at East Tilbury threw down, dropped or otherwise deposited litter, namely cigarette and left it in outside Lloyds Bank, High Street, Grays, Thurrock a place to which section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 applied. Contrary to section 87(1) and (5) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Marin Sandu, aged 27, of Brock Green, South Ockendon was fiend £734.00

On 25/05/2018 at South Ockendon the defendant threw down, dropped or otherwise deposited cigarette. in outside Barclays, High Street, Grays Thurrock and left it there.

Paul Trevers, aged 26, of Durham Avenue, Romford was fined £734.00

On 10/05/2018 at Thurrock threw down, dropped or otherwise deposited litter, namely A Cigarette and left it in outside Memorial Statue, High Street, Grays, Thurrock a place to which section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 applied.

Peter Kerin, aged 61, of Watts Crescent Purfleet was fined £250.00

On 19/05/2018 at Purfleet threw down, dropped or otherwise deposited litter, namely cirgarette and left it in outside Nationwide, High Street, Grays, Thurrock a place to which section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 applied. Contrary to section 87(1) and (5) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
