THE leader at the helm of the Thurrock Safeguarding Adults Board (TSAB), Graham Carey, is retiring after 10 years. In this time he has overseen the change from a discretionary board to the new statutory safeguarding adults board introduced by the Care Act 2014. He and the Board have worked closely with Thurrock Council, the police and the NHS to champion the work of the board and keep adult safeguarding firmly on the agenda in Thurrock.
Speaking about the work of the TSAB Graham said:
“I have thoroughly enjoyed the privilege of working with and chairing Thurrock’s Safeguarding Adults Board over the last decade. I have met and worked with some truly inspirational people in that time, particularly from the communities that the Board seeks to protect from harm and abuse. I think we have done well in Thurrock in protecting communities at risk and I am sure that will continue under the new chair of the Board Jim Nicholson.”
Jim Nicholson takes over in November as TSAB Independent Chair, and has a background of working in Thurrock, specialising in community protection and comes with over ten years’ experience in responding to these and other safeguarding adult related issues in the Borough and elsewhere.
Cllr Sue Little, Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care, said: “We take safeguarding of vulnerable adults very seriously and have recently launched a new campaign to help professionals and the public understand the ten signs of abuse, how to report it and what to do if they think a vulnerable adult may be at risk of abuse. We welcome Jim to Board and know that he will continue to guide us to improve outcomes for all vulnerable adults living in Thurrock.”
